The Engine Shed is a special interest group for children and young people with autism. The club enables young people on the autistic spectrum with an interest in trains to come together with their peers to observe, play, talk and enjoy their hobby in a welcoming, safe and relaxing environment – and where parents can have a chance to relax, and talk in a supportive atmosphere.

Model railways and train sets for all abilities are set up and a range of train-related resources are available for children to play with.

At the moment there are two groups: one in Reading and one in Chingford, North East London. Both groups meet monthly. There are also occasional opportunities with both groups to visit special train related attractions in their areas.

If you would like to know more, require clarifications or just want to check sessions are on before you travel, please contact the Coordinator Sarah at reading@theengineshed.org.uk. There are also updates on their Facebook page, and you can follow them on twitter too.
