Family Support

Volunteer With Home-Start Wokingham District and make a difference to the lives of local families
Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. By giving your time, you can make a real and lasting difference to families who need support, helping parents build confidence, reduce isolation, and create positive change for their children.
There are 168 hours in a week, can you spare 1-2?
Volunteer Opportunities
Home-Visiting Volunteers provide practical and emotional support to families in their own homes. After completing our preparation course, volunteers are carefully matched with a family and offer regular support, encouragement, and a listening ear.
Family Group Volunteers help create a warm and welcoming environment at our family groups. This may involve setting up activities, welcoming families, chatting with parents, playing with children, and helping sessions run smoothly.
No previous experience or qualifications are needed—just warmth, empathy, and a desire to help others.
Training and Support
We are committed to ensuring every volunteer feels confident, valued, and supported and offer a structured training programme designed to build confidence and skills.
Preparation Course
Our preparation course takes around 15 hours over a 3-week period and is designed to help you understand how we work and feel fully prepared for your role. Learning takes place through a fun interactive workshop, group discussions, and activities.
Ongoing Training
All volunteers have access to free training throughout the year, including:
- First Aid
- Infant Development (Birth to 5 Years)
- Safeguarding
A Supportive Community
As a Home-Start volunteer, you'll become part of a friendly and supportive network. Our quarterly coffee mornings provide opportunities to:
- Connect with other volunteers
- Share experiences and ideas
- Receive support and feedback
- We also actively encourage volunteers to help shape our services, ensuring your voice remains at the heart of our organisation.
Join Us
Research shows that volunteering can have a positive impact on both physical and mental wellbeing, being linked to lower rates of depression, greater life satisfaction, and even a longer lifespan.
If you'd like to make a difference, learn new skills, and connect with like-minded people in a supportive community, we'd love to hear from you.
