Family Groups at Home-Start Wokingham District

Home-Start Wokingham District offers a variety of free, supportive groups for families with young children, aiming to reduce isolation, boost confidence, and promote child development.

Through our groups, families receive guidance and encouragement from trained volunteers and staff, helping them navigate parenting challenges. Parents can build friendships, share experiences, and reduce feelings of isolation. Our structured activities promote children's speech, social skills, and physical development. Parents gain confidence in their parenting abilities and feel more empowered. Guest speakers and professionals provide valuable information on child health and development.

About the family groups

These groups are intentionally kept small (max 10-12 families) to foster meaningful connections and personalised support. These programs are free and open to families in Wokingham District with at least one child under five. Whether you're seeking support, connection, or developmental activities for your child, Home-Start Wokingham District is here to help.

I was new to the area when my daughter was born, and my health visitor recommended Home-Start and the baby group. Joining the group has been great. Over time, I’ve grown in confidence and made some wonderful friendships that continue to support me on my parenting journey.

Early Days Baby Group

When: 30 July, 6 August and 13th August

Where: At the Ambleside Centre, Woodley RG5 4JJ) (see map)

New Baby? Join the Early Days Baby Group from birth to crawling. A friendly welcoming group for parents and babies. Come along for connection, chats and practical support.

This group is open to all parents with a new baby, applications are via an online form and we have been allowing drop ins. We are going to offer the group for 10 or 12 weeks

This group provides new parents with a welcoming, supportive space where they can connect with others and learn about their baby’s development.

Starting School in September

When: Every Thursday from 4th June to 9th July

1pm to 2:30pm

Where: Ambleside Centre, Woodley RG5 4JJ (See map)

Fun and interactive sessions designed for parents and their children aged 2–4 who are will be starting Reception in September next year..

These sessions are a great opportunity to:

Explore simple, enjoyable games and activities
Build confidence for starting school
Support your child’s early learning at home

Parents will learn practical ideas to help develop key skills such as communication, early literacy, and social interaction, all through play-based learning.

This programme is designed to support improved educational outcomes by helping children develop the skills, confidence, and readiness needed to thrive when they start school.

The sessions are delivered by our PEEP qualified co-ordinator.

PEEP is a nationally recognised programme within the Government’s Best Start in Life strategy.

Busy Days
