Develop new skills and New Friendships
Volunteering isn't just about what you give. Our volunteers tell us they get back far more than they put in: new skills, new friendships, a sense of purpose and the satisfaction of seeing local families grow in confidence. In fact, 75% of volunteers say that volunteering improves their mental health.
Home-Start Wokingham District has a fantastic reputation within the voluntary sector for looking after its volunteers. Whatever you bring, we will invest in you: full training, support from our team, expenses covered and a warm community of fellow volunteers behind you. No experience is needed, just a willingness to help.
And for us?
Quite simply, without volunteers our services could not exist. Every family we support, every pound we raise and everything that keeps us running depends on people like you.
Volunteer Stories
Home-Start Wokingham District Volunteer
I joined Home-Start Wokingham because I wanted to give something back to my community, but I truly feel I’ve gained just as much joy from the experience as the families do.
A major highlight for me this was watching a mum I supported transition from being too anxious to leave the house, to confidently taking her toddler to the local park, the library, and even swimming. Being part of that journey and providing the 'safety net' she needed to find her feet again was an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s a constant reminder that small, consistent acts of kindness can spark significant, lasting changes.
